Kristen Bell faced backlash online after sharing a brief anniversary message for her husband, Dax Shepard. In a photo posted on Instagram, Bell, age 45, highlighted words Shepard once said to her, though many followers took issue with the sentiment, perceiving it as trivializing domestic violence.
She wrote, “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to a man who once said to me, ‘I will never kill you. Many men have killed their wives at some point. I have a strong motive to kill you, but I will never kill you.’” While some fans brushed off the comment, others criticized it sharply, feeling it made light of a serious matter.
One user commented, “1. Congratulations! 2. I know the caption is supposed to be cute and funny, but a woman is killed by her partner every 10 minutes in the world,” including the hashtag “#stopviolenceagainstwomen.” Another user expressed disbelief, stating, “Domestic violence is no joke,” while someone else questioned if the post was intended to be humorous.
Further responses included comments about how inappropriate it is to joke about such topics. One remark summed it up as “tone deaf and disgusting.” Bell and Shepard first crossed paths in 2007 at a mutual friend’s dinner party, later reconnecting at a hockey game, which led to their relationship blossoming.
The couple tied the knot in 2013 and are parents to two daughters, Lincoln and Delta. Bell has often shared anecdotes about their early days, recalling how Shepard texted her, humorously referencing how he obtained her number. “I fell in love with him long before he fell in love with me,” she reflected.
