Hillary Clinton Critiques Trump’s White House Ballroom Plans

Hillary Clinton, the former Secretary of State, has voiced her disapproval of President Donald Trump’s initiative to create a ballroom at the White House, emphasizing that 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is, in fact, the people’s home. In a post on X, she remarked, “This isn’t his home. It’s your home. And he’s destroying it.”

The social media update included a screenshot from a Washington Post article about the demolition of the east wing facade to accommodate the proposed ballroom, alongside a photo of workers on-site.

In response to criticism, White House Press Secretary Davis Engle asserted to Fox News Digital that Trump is dedicated to enhancing the White House without any cost to taxpayers. He mentioned, “These long-needed renovations will benefit generations of future presidents and Americans visiting the House of Peoples.”

Plans for modernizing the White House have been discussed by Trump for several months, but he officially announced the commencement of construction on the ballroom recently. According to a White House statement, the project is privately funded.

“I am pleased to announce that we have broken ground on the White House grounds to build a new, large and beautiful White House Ballroom,” Trump stated on Truth Social. He emphasized, “The East Wing, which is completely separate from the White House itself, has been completely modernized as part of this process and will be more beautiful than ever when completed.”

He also mentioned the historical significance of having a ballroom, noting that for over 150 years, presidents dreamed of such a space for significant gatherings. “I am honored to be the first president to finally bring this much-needed project to fruition at zero cost to American taxpayers,” he added, claiming the funding comes from “generous patriots, great American businesses, and truly yours.” Trump expressed confidence that the ballroom would be enjoyed for generations to come.

Earlier this year, Press Secretary Caroline Levitt indicated that the ballroom’s estimated cost would be around $200 million, and the space would be able to host about 650 guests.

Levitt pointed out that the current inability of the White House to host major events without setting up an unsightly tent nearby highlighted the necessity for the new ballroom, calling it a “great, much-needed addition.”

Criticism from other Democrats has also surfaced regarding the construction plans. New Jersey Senator Andy Kim characterized the effort as “disgusting,” sharing a personal photo of his family beside the part of the White House that was demolished. He remarked, “We didn’t need a billionaire-funded banquet hall to celebrate America. What Trump is doing is disgusting.”

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren added her commentary on X, suggesting that the administration’s priorities are misplaced given the rising cost of living while bulldozers are at work. “I can’t hear you over the sound of bulldozers tearing down part of the White House to make way for a new ballroom,” she quipped.

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania Congressman Malcolm Kenyatta highlighted a perceived inconsistency in Republican funding priorities. He contrasted the allocation for the ballroom with essential support for Americans, stating, “We can afford: Trump banquets…We can’t afford: Medicare for all Americans.”

The ballroom construction follows Trump’s earlier initiatives this summer, which included the installation of two large American flags next to the White House and renovations to the Rose Garden, all reported to be at no expense to taxpayers.
