Jessica Simpson Reflects on Unplanned Single Motherhood
Jessica Simpson finds herself navigating life as a single mother at 45, which, well, she certainly didn’t see coming. In a recent interview, she shared her thoughts on how life can take unexpected turns, especially following her split from Eric Johnson.
“We tend to be obsessed with age,” she remarked, adding, “I never thought I’d be single again at 45 with three kids. But, I suppose, that’s just how destiny played out for me.” It’s a relatable sentiment, really—life often diverges from our blueprints.
Since announcing her separation, Simpson has been focusing on her music for the first time in 15 years. “This part of my life, it’s about rediscovering who I am—without anyone else’s judgments,” she explained. “It’s all about being proud of myself, being honest and vulnerable, and channeling that into my work. It’s pretty empowering.”
New Chapter After Separation
Simpson made headlines in January when she revealed her separation from Eric Johnson after a decade of marriage. Initially, she declared they were “separated,” but didn’t delve into the specifics of their breakup at that moment.
In a statement, she acknowledged the challenges, saying, “Eric and I have been working through tough times in our marriage. Our focus is on our children, and we deeply appreciate the support we’ve received. Privacy is important to us as we navigate this.”
When they first met in May 2010, their relationship seemed promising, leading to an engagement just six months later. They welcomed two children, Maxwell and Ace, before tying the knot in 2014, followed by the birth of their third child, Birdie, in 2019.
As Simpson ventured back into the music realm, she noted a shift in her and Johnson’s lives. She spends considerable time between Los Angeles and Nashville, while Johnson remained in LA where the kids attend school. “They really lead separate lives now,” a source clarified.
Reflecting on her journey, Simpson mentioned that this return to music feels personal, an “apology to myself for enduring things I didn’t deserve.” It’s a thought that resonates—making peace with past experiences can spark incredible new beginnings.
