40% Believe Undocumented Immigrants Without Criminal Records Should Be Deported

Public Opinion on Undocumented Immigrants

A recent survey revealed that 40% of respondents believe undocumented immigrants without serious criminal records should be deported. The survey conducted by an economic organization inquired about opinions on this issue, specifically asking, “What do you think should be done about immigrants who entered the United States illegally but did not commit crimes while in the United States?”

Overall, public sentiment is nearly evenly divided. About 41% think these individuals should be allowed to stay, while 40% advocate for deportation. Interestingly, 19% of those surveyed remain uncertain.

Party affiliation seems to play a significant role in shaping opinions. A substantial majority of Democrats, around 68%, favor allowing illegal immigrants to stay, with just 10% supporting deportation. The remaining 22% are undecided.

Conversely, nearly three-quarters of Republicans, or 72%, lean towards the deportation of illegal immigrants. Only 14% think they should remain, and 15% are unsure.

Among independents, 42% believe undocumented immigrants should be allowed to remain in the country, while 38% prefer deportation, and 20% are uncertain about their stance.

The survey was conducted from October 10-13, 2025, involving 1,622 U.S. adults, with a margin of error of +/- 3.5%. This effort aligns with actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) focusing on detaining and deporting the most serious criminal offenders.

Tom Homan spoke to a news outlet to share his commitment to his role concerning border security, expressing deep concern over the tragedies he has witnessed over his career. He recounted distressing experiences, suggesting that those who criticize border policies should understand the harsh realities faced in this sphere.

In his words, “If you’ve been in my shoes for 35 years, you wouldn’t ask that question… So how can you say no when you are asked to come back to protect our borders and you know it will save lives?”
