Schumer Is Out, Mamdani Appears to Be the New Democratic Leader

Trump Comments on Democratic Leadership

During a Diwali celebration at the White House, President Donald Trump remarked that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is “gone,” suggesting that far-left New York mayoral candidate Zoran Mamdani appears to be taking the lead within the Democratic Party.

Trump’s remarks were made in response to inquiries from Breitbart News and intertwined with discussions alongside technology industry leaders and Cabinet members.

Mamdani, who has hinted at a presidential run despite concerns over his citizenship status, has reportedly pushed the Democratic Party toward what Trump labeled as communism. Trump said, “They skipped socialism and ended up with communism. I don’t know—perhaps the polls are wrong, but they seem consistent. He’s probably going to be the leader,” when asked if the party is more aligned with Mamdani than with Schumer or House Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries.

The president did express openness to meeting with Schumer, even though he asserted that Schumer is no longer a leader in his party. Trump stated, “Not Schumer. Schumer was shot. He’s been beaten up by young radical lunatics. I think Chuck is probably done.” He added that it’s hard to interact with someone after making such comments but felt compelled to state what he believes to be true.

Trump also acknowledged some “reasonable” Democrats that he thinks could be effective leaders. However, he indicated that the odds seem stacked against them as the far-left faction gains control. He remarked, “There are sensible people, but they don’t really stand a chance. Some of them, I truly believe, are low IQ, stupid people leading the party. Let’s see what happens.”

He contrasted the Democratic Party’s current situation with that of the Republican Party, asserting its strength and leadership. “We’re strong on all fronts… Our party has grown beautifully. Look at all the union votes I got. Nobody thought that was possible,” he noted. Trump claimed significant victories in elections, mentioning that he won all seven battleground states by considerable margins. He expressed confidence in the appeal of his policies—strong borders, good education, and low taxes—pointing to his administration’s tax cuts as a factor in the party’s success, stating, “People see it and like it. I think that’s why we’re doing so well.”
