JD Vance meets with Netanyahu to strengthen ceasefire agreement in crucial times

Vice President Vance’s Visit to Israel

Vice President J.D. Vance, accompanied by his wife Usha, is currently in Israel for a three-day visit. Their main agenda involves discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

During their time there, the Vances shared a meal with Netanyahu and his wife, Sara. Additionally, both leaders engaged in talks with Israel’s ceremonial president, Isaac Herzog.

On Wednesday, Netanyahu reflected on a recent significant visit by President Trump, where the return of Israeli hostages marked the first step in the U.S.-facilitated peace agreement with Hamas.

Netanyahu stated, “Over the past year, we have forged an unparalleled alliance and partnership with the United States, which is changing the Middle East and changing the world. It creates an opportunity not only for security but for the expansion of peace. We’re very committed to that. And it is unparalleled.”

The Israeli prime minister remarked on the uniqueness of his collaboration with Trump’s administration, drawing comparisons to past U.S. leaders by emphasizing, “There has never been anything like it.”

In a warm greeting, Netanyahu expressed to Vance, “I have been impressed by your clarity, astuteness, and unity in our common cause, as well as the genuine friendship I’ve witnessed both in conferences and private gatherings. It’s in that spirit I welcome you to Jerusalem on these fateful days.”

Vance replied, “As the Prime Minister said, this is a fateful day, and I am very excited to sit down and work together on the Gaza peace plan.”

“We face a tough challenge: disarming Hamas and rebuilding Gaza to improve life for its people, while ensuring Hamas no longer poses a threat to our friends in Israel. It’s not going to be easy, and I think everyone knows that. But we’re fully committed to this effort in the Trump administration,” Vance added. “In the last 24 hours, we’ve had positive conversations with the Israeli government and even with our friends in the Arab world, who are eager to contribute positively to this issue. We will keep pushing forward.”

Vance conveyed a sense of optimism about the ongoing progress despite the hurdles ahead. The next phase of the ceasefire agreement entails Hamas laying down its arms to show commitment to peace in the region. However, the group’s willingness to disarm remains in question as they have returned some hostages while continuing to carry out public executions of those believed to support Israel. Last week, President Trump made a stern warning that if violence does not cease, Israel’s allies might have “no choice” but to escalate their responses.
