Officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) detained a child sex offender who had been deported from Mexico during a routine traffic stop in Eagle Pass. This incident occurred on October 15, when three illegal immigrants were discovered inside a Dodge Challenger in Maverick County. One of them, Jose Aleman Arroyo, 49, had recently been convicted in North Carolina for indecency and child assault—just two months prior.
Lt. Chris Olivares from Texas DPS shared a video online showing the traffic stop at a gas station in Eagle Pass. During the stop, as they spoke with the driver, Joshua Sanders from Fort Worth, officers found the three undocumented individuals in the car.
Mr. Sanders was subsequently arrested and charged with human smuggling.
As officers conducted background checks on the immigrants, they identified one as a Mexican national with a serious criminal history, including child molestation and sexual assault, stemming from a conviction in North Carolina. After this conviction in August, he had been deported to Mexico by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This individual was identified as Jose Aleman Arroyo.
Remarkably, just two months later, he managed to re-enter the U.S. illegally, evading capture along the border—until now, when authorities apprehended him while he was allegedly being smuggled further into the country.
After the arrest, Arroyo and the other illegal immigrants were handed over to Border Patrol agents for processing and removal. Arroyo now faces federal charges regarding his illegal re-entry after being released as a registered sex offender. The other two individuals are expected to be deported back to Mexico and Honduras.
Mr. Sanders remains in custody at the Maverick County Jail, where he awaits trial for his charges related to human smuggling.
