Joe Flacco Embraces Solo Season at Ohio State
Joe Flacco is adapting to his new situation in Ohio. Earlier this month, the Bengals acquired him from the Browns, a move that surprised many. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Flacco reflected on being away from his family, who are settled in New Jersey.
“The upside is that I’m in Cleveland alone while my family is in New Jersey. We made some different choices last year, and this time we thought it best to let the kids stick to their routines and see how it goes,” Flacco shared, having played for the Colts in the 2024 season.
“It hasn’t been easy. I miss being with them, but they’re really enjoying their time at home. Luckily, they’ll be coming to Cleveland for the game soon,” he added.
Flacco, a father of five with his wife Dana, discussed the loneliness that can come with being away from loved ones. Still, he’s finding a silver lining in this unique experience.
“For me, it’s about staying here a little longer, avoiding the loneliness, and finding ways to enjoy my own company. I’ve learned to appreciate those moments,” he said, bringing smiles from the media crowd.
Interestingly, he reflected on an earlier mindset: “I used to see people alone at bars and think they were sad, but now I get it—sometimes, that solitude is bliss.”
Flacco, now 40, is making the most of this altered reality, though he admits that he yearns to be sitting with his family, soaking in their conversations.
“If you find yourself in a situation, you might as well make the best of it,” he remarked.
The veteran quarterback kicked off the 2025-26 season with the Browns, taking the starter position over other quarterbacks. After a shaky start to the season, he found a new home with the Bengals.
The Bengals needed Flacco after their recent struggles with their backup quarterback Jake Browning. Flacco has already thrown five touchdowns without any interceptions, notably leading the Bengals to a nail-biting 33-31 win against the Steelers last week.
This Sunday, the Bengals will face the winless Jets at home.
