Fetterman Critiques Harris’s Rhetoric on Trump
Democratic Senator John Fetterman recently expressed his concerns about former Vice President Kamala Harris, who is running for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination, specifically regarding her comments labeling President Trump as a “fascist.”
In an interview on Fox News’ “Hannity,” Fetterman seemed to imply that some Democrats were being overly harsh with their rhetoric. When host Sean Hannity asked why comparisons between Trump and authoritarian figures were being made, Fetterman noted the backlash Harris has faced for her statements.
“I don’t know, but I’ve always hesitated to say that,” he commented. “When Vice President Harris referred to Trump as a ‘fascist,’ it felt like I had lost the narrative there.”
He cautioned that calling Trump a fascist might undermine the millions of Americans who support him, suggesting it could paint those voters with the same broad brush.
“By branding someone like the president as a fascist, you’re also labeling his supporters as fascists or as supporters of fascism, which isn’t accurate,” Fetterman elaborated.
In late October 2024, with Trump’s campaign struggling, Harris described him as a “fascist” and a “dangerous person.” During a CNN town hall, when asked if she viewed Trump this way, she affirmed, “Yes, I do. Yes, I do.” She emphasized how she viewed Trump’s remarks as suggestive of a troubling mindset.
Fetterman also voiced a concern over how extreme language could potentially incite violence, referencing the recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. “Such extreme rhetoric can lead to extreme actions, like what happened to poor Charlie Kirk,” he remarked.
He pointed out, “We forget how interconnected we are. I won’t engage in that kind of conversation that compares people to Hitler.” His stance was clear: “If that’s what it takes to win, I refuse to do it.”
