Democratic Party’s Instagram Mishap
The Democratic Party’s official Instagram account shared a video on Wednesday that accused President Donald Trump of “destroying” the White House due to the temporary demolition of the East Wing. Interestingly, the post featured a photo not of the White House, but of Buckingham Palace’s East Wing by mistake.
On Monday, work began on constructing a new 90,000-square-foot ballroom, which involved demolishing part of the East Room. The Instagram post included the caption, “The People’s House Destroyed by Trump 💔,” alongside various historical images and clips of the White House, with annotations like “East Wing from another era.”
To complicate matters, the video also included images of what will be displayed in the East Wing of Buckingham Palace, clearly misrepresenting the White House’s current state.
Neither spokespeople from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) nor the White House returned inquiries from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The Republican party’s official X account responded on Thursday, pointing out the error. They tweeted, “The DNC is so upset that President Trump is building a new ballroom at the White House that they posted a sad video on Instagram last night. Too bad their intern posted a photo of the East Wing of Buckingham Palace instead of the White House.”
Many Democrats and media outlets have expressed considerable outrage over the demolition of the East Building. DNC Chairman Ken Martin remarked on Instagram, lamenting the loss of the “elegant and glamorous” East Wing, claiming it did not deserve to be replaced by a “gaudy ballroom.”
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also weighed in, stating on Tuesday, “It’s not his [Trump’s] house. It’s your home. And he’s destroying it.” Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom remarked on X that Trump is “tearing apart the White House the same way he’s tearing up the Constitution.”
In response to the backlash, the White House issued a statement, saying, “In the latest example of fabricated outrage, the disenfranchised left and its fake news allies are clutching their pearls over President Donald J. Trump’s visionary addition to the White House of a grand, privately funded ballroom. This bold and necessary addition reflects the commander-in-chief’s storied history of improvements and additions to maintain the Executive Mansion as a beacon of American excellence.”
