Suspect in Charlotte murder had over 40 previous arrests, court documents reveal

Records indicate that the individual charged with the murder of a 51-year-old man in North Carolina has a significant history of arrests—over 40 times, to be exact.

Ronnie Fewell, 32, is accused of shooting Ronald Neville at a Motel 6 in Charlotte on October 10. According to an arrest affidavit, Neville was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene.

Security footage shows Fewell among three men who forcibly entered the motel room, though he reportedly stayed for just a few seconds. Detectives noted that one of the men hurriedly left, carrying a backpack that he hadn’t had upon entering.

Fewell now faces charges of felony murder, robbery involving a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy related to the shooting. Authorities claim he is one of four individuals implicated in Neville’s death.

Interestingly, it’s reported that the backpack contained items worth about $100.

Currently, Fewell is being held without bail at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Since 2012, he has faced at least 40 arrests, according to reviewed court and arrest records.

Fewell’s previous charges include various offenses such as resisting a public officer, trespassing, assault, possession of stolen property, and firearms-related offenses, among others. While many charges ended up being dropped by local prosecutors, he has served time for a few convictions.

In response to Fewell’s numerous arrests, Rep. Mark Harris (R-North Carolina) expressed his outrage on social media, stating he was “disgusted” by the situation. He emphasized that another serial offender was allowed to remain free in Charlotte and now faces a murder charge.
