Chicago School Principal Calls Teacher Accused of Mocking Charlie Kirk's Assassination a Victim

The principal of Nathan Hale Elementary School in Chicago sent a letter to the community, framing the teacher accused of making a mockery of the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk as a victim.

In a letter to the school community, Nathan Hale Elementary School Principal Dawn Isles Gomez expressed concern over “threats” directed at the teacher, but notably did not address the actions of the educator or the discipline she faced.

“Recently, we have become aware of social media posts that could be seen as potential threats to our staff,” the principal’s letter stated.

“To ensure the safety of our school community, we take all potential threats very seriously. The Chicago Police Department and CPS Office of Safety and Security have been notified, and CPD is currently looking into the situation further,” she added.

Gomez mentioned that CPD would provide “additional safety support” at the start and end of classes, driven by caution.

The teacher in question, Lucy Martinez, gained attention after being filmed mimicking shooting gestures while attending the No Kings protests over the weekend.

Additional footage appears to show her making the gesture while a truck passed by displaying a flag reading “Hero — 1993-2025 — Charlie Kirk.”

There are unconfirmed reports that Martinez has been dismissed from her position, but a memo from the principal indicates she is still employed at the school.

Sen. Ted Cruz commented on Gomez’s letter, while Megyn Kelly made a bold statement on her show demanding that Martinez be terminated. Andrew Corbett from Turning Point USA shared in a post that a concerned parent forwarded the email from the principal, expressing outrage over the school portraying Martinez as a victim without acknowledging her inappropriate actions.

Corbett further suggested that firing Lucy Martinez would help alleviate the situation, stating, “She failed the biggest pop quiz of her life, so she doesn’t need to be with the kids.”

Nathan Hale Elementary School has yet to respond to requests for comment.
