CNN Contributor States Calmly That Trump's Discussion of a Third Term Has Been Very Provocative for Democrats

Discussion on Trump’s Potential Third Term

During a segment on CNN’s “The Arena,” contributor Lulu Garcia-Navarro commented on the discussions and trolling surrounding President Donald Trump’s potential bid for a third term, which, constitutionally, he isn’t eligible for. She remarked that this buzz is “incredibly galvanizing” for Democrats.

As speculation grows about Trump’s intentions, he recently shared a meme on Truth Social featuring Yard signs from different years, culminating in “Trump 4eva.” Garcia-Navarro expressed skepticism about labeling this merely as “trolling,” especially in light of recent remarks from former Trump advisor Steve Bannon.

“This is incredibly provocative for Democrats,” Garcia-Navarro stated, recognizing that the conversation holds deeper implications. She pointed out that it’s far from baseless, highlighting the former president’s past attempts to incite unrest and his ongoing efforts to contest the 2020 election outcomes.

Garcia-Navarro continued, “This is a president still trying to litigate the 2020 election. He’s trying to place individuals in key positions for future elections, essentially making him an election denier. It feels almost outlandish to think this is a possibility. If it were true, we wouldn’t be discussing it like this.” She referenced that if Biden were in that situation, the narrative would likely differ.

In a recent interview with The Economist, Steve Bannon expressed his beliefs about Trump possibly seeking a third term, claiming Trump is meant to “finish” what the party started. Bannon described Trump as “an imperfect vehicle of divine providence,” emphasizing the necessity of having him around for another term.

Despite these discussions, the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution clearly states that no individual can be elected president more than twice. However, law professor Kim Wehr speculated earlier this year that the Supreme Court might provide Trump with another opportunity in the upcoming election, following decisions that prevent certain states from removing him from ballots.

Trump has previously mentioned in an interview with NBC that he’s heard many people encouraging him to run again, but he claims his focus is on current matters. “This is not a joke,” he asserted, while also noting that it’s premature to contemplate a run.
