Jimmy Kimmel Says 'Christianity Has Been Misused and Distorted' in Discussion About Trump's Immigration Policies

Jimmy Kimmel Critiques Trump’s Immigration Policies on Podcast

During an appearance on Ted Danson’s podcast, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel took a strong stance against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, describing Christianity as being “perverted.” He expressed frustration that Catholicism, which he believes had a positive influence in his upbringing, is being used in ways that contradict its teachings.

Kimmel shared his belief that Jesus would oppose the current treatment of immigrants, emphasizing that he cannot fathom how anyone could find it acceptable to forcibly remove families from public spaces due to legal issues. He stated, “It’s become so clear to me that he will not tolerate nannies being dragged out of parks, stuffed into vans and sent back to their home countries because the paperwork is not in place,” highlighting his view on the inhumanity of these actions.

He went on to criticize Republican voters for their unquestioning support of Trump’s policies, likening political allegiance to a sport where loyalty blinds people to the actions of their own team. “It’s like everything the blue team does is good, and everything the red team does is bad, and vice versa,” he remarked, although he himself has previously expressed a bias favorable toward the blue team.

Kimmel further argued that illegal immigrants should not face deportation, questioning the moral implications of attending church while engaging in such harmful behaviors toward families. He acknowledged the feelings of resentment that might arise for those who have followed legal channels to immigrate, yet he emphasized that many come seeking better lives for themselves and their families. “They work hard. Believe it or not, they pay taxes,” he claimed.

However, it’s worth noting that Kimmel’s assertion about illegal immigrants paying taxes raises some questions. Generally, immigrants in the country without documentation do not contribute in the same way that citizens do and often utilize more public services than they contribute. Additionally, remittances sent back to their home countries typically exceed the foreign aid provided by the U.S. government, creating a complex financial dynamic that impacts the American economy.
