Republican Lawmakers Raise Concerns About Islamic Extremists in the Capitol

Concerns Raised Over Islamic Extremists on Capitol Hill

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) and Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) are expressing alarm after reports surfaced that individuals associated with Islamic extremist groups were allegedly using Capitol Hill bathrooms for prayer and washing during the recent government shutdown.

In a post shared on X, investigative journalist Lara Loomer revealed that the two Republican officials intend to reach out to Capitol Police soon to request surveillance footage. This follows claims that affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, identified as members of Americans Action for Justice in Palestine (AJPAction), were reportedly holding clandestine meetings and engaged in prayer activities within the Capitol. The post notes that these individuals were seen using prayer mats and walked around in traditional Islamic outfits.

According to Sen. Tuberville and Rep. Roy, they plan to act on Loomer’s revelations, stating that it’s essential for the public to see who in Congress met with these Islamic extremist groups during the shutdown. They reported activities including praying on mats and utilizing the Senate bathroom to prepare for prayers.

Loomer indicated that several Congress members concurred that the public deserves transparency regarding which officials interacted with such organizations during this period.

Tuberville had previously mentioned during a recent episode of *Rumor Unleashed* that he and his staff noticed “women in niqabs” and “men praying” in both the Senate chamber and bathrooms. He commented, “They used the bathroom to prepare for prayer. I don’t know how it’s done in Islamic countries, but they seem to do a lot of public displays here.”

Additionally, Breitbart News highlighted that Roy introduced a bill earlier in October aimed at safeguarding Americans from Sharia law. The Sharia-Free America Preservation Act, co-sponsored with other Republican representatives, seeks to prevent “Shariah law-abiding foreign nationals” from entering or residing in the United States.

Roy’s press release stated that this bill would enhance security and protect the nation’s core values by prohibiting the entry or presence of individuals adhering to Sharia law.

In more recent discussions, Tuberville has emphasized the significant threat posed by Islamic extremism to the U.S., recalling the September 11 attacks as a pivotal moment. He remarked, “Nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives that day due to a coordinated attack by extremists. Those who experienced it firsthand remember exactly where they were when it happened. It irreversibly altered our nation.”

He went on to highlight that attacks embody a persistent threat to the freedoms and values cherished in the country, asserting that it is not merely physical assaults but also an attack on Western culture itself.

In July, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) also took steps to address this concern. He reintroduced a bill to classify the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. The Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act of 2025 aims to clarify previous opposition by identifying Brotherhood affiliates engaged in terrorism.

Cruz asserted, “The Muslim Brotherhood is a terrorist group, and its associations support other terrorist organizations, including Hamas, which recently conducted a significant attack against innocent people.”
