Fan Storms Court During NBA Game for Selfie
During a recent NBA game on Thursday night, a security guard was seen escorting an eager fan out of Barclays Center after he rushed onto the court to take a selfie with Cleveland Cavaliers star, Donovan Mitchell.
This unexpected moment happened with just five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, while the Cavaliers were leading the Brooklyn Nets, 121-115. A fan in a purple sweatshirt apparently decided to make his move at the whistle, sprinting towards Mitchell with his phone in hand.
The scene was quickly captured by the broadcast cameras as players moved back and security intervened. It was, well, chaotic for a moment.
The game had to pause as security dealt with the enthusiastic fan. After the game, Mitchell remarked on the situation, explaining that the fan’s intention was simply to snap a selfie. “I took a few steps back and then repositioned my feet, ready for whatever was next,” he noted. “The kid wanted a selfie. He’s probably in a bit of trouble now, but I hope he gets some good photos when he’s out.” It’s certainly an unusual predicament for everyone involved.
Jarrett Allen, a teammate, commended security for their swift response. “At first, I didn’t know what was happening, but then I saw him running toward Don. I moved closer. There’s a lot of security around, which was reassuring.” He added, jokingly, “When they took him out, he wasn’t even touching the ground.” Definitely an interesting night for fans and players alike.
While the outcome for the fan remains unclear, he might be facing a ban from future visits to Barclays Center. The Cavaliers went on to win the game, finishing 131-124, with Mitchell scoring an impressive 35 points, while his teammates Allen and Sam Merrill each added 22 points to the tally.
