Mark Sanchez Remembers Former Teammate Nick Mangold

Former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has shared his thoughts on the unexpected passing of his teammate Nick Mangold, who died Saturday night from complications related to kidney disease.

Mangold’s death at the age of 41 came just two weeks after he revealed he needed a transplant.

“We lost a good person today,” Sanchez wrote on social media on Sunday. He added, “Nick Mangold will certainly be a Hall of Famer, but he’s so much more than his on-field achievements. He was more than just a teammate—he was like an older brother to me, guiding me through my NFL journey. He was my friend and really my best friend. As a father and husband, he set a great example.”

He concluded with a heartfelt message: “Our hearts are heavy. We will miss you. Rest in peace. We love you. #74.”

This tribute marked Sanchez’s first social media comment since a violent incident on October 4, when he was stabbed, hospitalized, and arrested after a confrontation with an elderly driver in Indianapolis.

Reports indicate that a Fox Sports analyst, who was in Indianapolis to cover a game, is believed to have been involved in the altercation. Sanchez faces charges that include felony battery and three misdemeanor counts, including public intoxication.

In an interview published on October 6, Mangold expressed disbelief at the accusations against Sanchez, stating they are out of character for the person he knows. “I’ve known Mark since 2009, and he’s not the type to act that way,” he commented, wishing for clarification about the incident.

In the meantime, a judge in Indianapolis has set a trial date for Sanchez on December 11. He’s been excused from recent pretrial events as he continues to recover from his injuries.
