Outrage Over Deportation of Sami Hamdi from the UK
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has expressed anger regarding the planned deportation of Sami Hamdi, who is accused of praising the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel.
Tricia McLaughlin, an Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, mentioned in a statement to Blaze News that, due to the efforts of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, “this individual’s visa has been revoked, and he remains in ICE custody until he is removed.”
However, as of Monday morning, Sami Hamdi’s name was not listed in the online database of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
During a speech, Hamdi reportedly raised the question, “How many of you have felt happiness?” after the attacks. McLaughlin noted that under President Trump, individuals who support terrorism and threaten national security would not be permitted to enter or work in the U.S. “That’s common sense,” she added.
The State Department reiterated, “We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: The United States has no obligation to host foreign nationals who support terrorism or actively undermine the safety of Americans.”
His detention follows a recent announcement from the RAIR Foundation USA, which criticized Hamdi’s history of extremist views. They remarked that his presence in America could serve as a platform for promoting foreign extremist Islamic agendas, calling his presentations tactical instead of educational.
In a recent panel discussion, Hamdi suggested that Muslims should celebrate victories rather than sympathize with Palestinians, indicating his support for Hamas. This statement comes in light of reports indicating that over 1,200 individuals, including 46 Americans, lost their lives in the attacks.
“Allah has shown the world that no normalization can erase the Palestinian cause,” he stated, openly expressing joy at the events of October 7th and alluding to the liberation of Palestinian sentiments.
Additionally, Hamdi has claimed that allegations of rape by Hamas militants were fabricated. He expressed his view that his statements have been misunderstood, asserting that he sees Hamas’s actions as a natural response to the oppression faced by the Palestinian people.
Hamdi, who manages a group advising on global political dynamics, was supposed to present at various events, including the CAIR Annual Banquet. However, his speaking tour was abruptly halted when immigration authorities detained him at San Francisco International Airport.
A co-founder of CAIR condemned Hamdi’s arrest, claiming to feel “happy” about the attacks on innocent civilians and denouncing the detention, calling for his release.
Concerns about freedom of speech were highlighted, with claims that Hamdi’s arrest was a blatant violation of these rights. Advocates emphasized the need for legal action against what they termed as unjust abduction, arguing that such policies serve certain political interests rather than reflecting American values.
In response, the British Islamic Council urged the UK government to take necessary diplomatic steps to defend Hamdi’s rights.
