Scott Jennings Offers Insight on Trump's Talk of a Third Term After a Decade of Belief

Trump’s Third Term Talk: Political Theater or Serious Bid?

CNN political commentator Scott Jennings remarked on Tuesday that discussions around President Donald Trump potentially aiming for a third term feel, well, a bit like the same old dance, with Democrats once again taking the bait.

With speculation circulating about Trump’s interest in re-election despite the constitutional two-term limit, he shared a meme on Truth Social depicting a campaign sign that cheekily read “Trump 4eva.” During a discussion on “The Arena,” Jennings downplayed these rumors, suggesting they serve as part of Trump’s playbook to rattle his long-standing opponents.

“I think he’s just messing with the Democratic Party. He enjoys it, and they keep falling for it, time after time,” Jennings told host Casey Hunt. “Look, the president has noted the peculiar idea of electing him as vice president or possibly Speaker of the House, so he could maintain influence.”

Jennings argues that talk surrounding a third term is little more than an act. “This is all nonsense. He mentioned it would be too clever for its own good, and he’s right. We won’t need a third term. I’m pretty sure his second term would be viewed positively by 2028. But honestly, I think this is just a way to get a rise out of people. It seems like they’re possibly moving a lot of merch because of it, and I can’t help but think they’re having a good laugh at all of this,” he added.

Although the 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, prohibits any president from serving more than two terms, law professor and ABC News contributor Kim Wehrle indicated in March that a recent Supreme Court decision could leave some openings for future challenges regarding these limits in places like Colorado, Maine, and Illinois.

In an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker, President Trump brushed off the notion, clarifying that although many urge him to consider another run, his focus remains on the current administration.
