Republican Senators Advocate for Charlie Kirk’s Inclusion in National Garden of American Heroes

Over a dozen Republican senators are pushing for the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk to be included in President Donald Trump’s proposed National Garden of American Heroes. This initiative aims to feature 250 life-size statues of iconic American figures.

In a letter directed to Trump, spearheaded by Senator Bill Cassidy from Louisiana, these lawmakers expressed their desire to honor Kirk by including him in this ambitious project. If he is added to the garden, his statue would join those of notable individuals like Abraham Lincoln, Kobe Bryant, Martin Luther King Jr., Amelia Earhart, and Albert Einstein.

The senators articulated that including Kirk would not only acknowledge his personal achievements but also highlight the significance of public engagement in shaping national heritage. They emphasized that recognizing leaders who foster participation ensures that the garden represents both historic and modern voices in America.

Kirk was tragically assassinated last month in Orem, Utah while giving a speech at Utah Valley University. In the wake of his death, there have been calls for a commemorative coin in his honor. Posthumously, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Trump, and his birthday, October 14, has been designated as Charlie Kirk Memorial Day.

Additionally, a move to commemorate Kirk with a statue in a proposed park near Mount Rushmore has gained support from his widow, Erica Kirk. In her statement, she noted that her husband “changed the direction of this country forever,” expressing hope that his legacy will impact future generations.

Erica continued, stating, “My husband is a founding father of modern America, and he deserves every honor and praise this country can give him.” She also extended her gratitude to Senator Cassidy and the other senators for nominating Charlie for this honor.

The National Heroes Garden was initially established through an executive order by Trump in 2020 and was reaffirmed in early 2021. It recently received a $40 million boost from a bill signed by Trump.

In his executive order, Trump described the garden as a tribute to the nation’s exceptionalism. He explained that each individual chosen for the garden represents qualities such as boldness, defiance, excellence, courage, and love, all essential to America’s noble history.

Plans are underway to create life-size statues for installation in the garden by July 2026, commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary.
