CJ Gardner-Johnson Moves to the Bears
CJ Gardner-Johnson’s tumultuous NFL season is taking a new turn as he joins the injury-plagued Bears, aiming to bolster their secondary, as reported by ESPN.com.
This offseason has been quite a ride for Gardner-Johnson. The 27-year-old was traded from the Eagles, with whom he celebrated a Super Bowl victory, to the Texans. However, his stay there was short-lived, as he was released after just three games. He then signed with the Ravens, but was waived again before stepping onto the field.
As for the Bears, they are in urgent need of help in the secondary, with top cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon on injured reserve, along with No. 3 corner Tyrik Stephenson also sidelined with injury.
This situation might lead Gardner-Johnson to switch from safety to cornerback with his new team. Reports indicate he was unhappy with his role on the Texans, which reportedly led to some “behind-the-scenes” drama before his exit.
In the wake of this, Texans general manager Nick Caserio commented, “We took a shot and it didn’t go as planned. Now we need to concentrate on our team with the players we have.” He expressed good wishes for Gardner-Johnson and acknowledged the complexities of the decision-making process regarding the player.
Gardner-Johnson’s departure from the Ravens was described as “amicable,” as he sought a clearer path to playing time. In a message shared on social media, he expressed gratitude to all the teams, coaches, and teammates he’s had, highlighting his growth both on and off the field. He remains passionate about the sport and is eager to continue pursuing his love for football.
This week, the Bears, currently at 4-3, are set to face the Bengals, who are 3-5.
