Dexter Lawrence Responds to Carl Banks’ Comments

Dexter Lawrence recently pushed back against remarks made by Giants icon Carl Banks, who stated on a podcast that “nobody respects me anymore.”

“He’s delusional,” Lawrence remarked while at his locker, emphasizing that he finds Banks’ statements to be seriously misplaced.

When questioned about whether Banks’ critiques serve as motivation, Lawrence’s response was clear: “No, but if people listen to him… I’d actually prefer it if they started to despise me. Let’s put it that way.” He added, “I hope they don’t respect me anymore because, you know, that’s not reflected on the field. On the field, they show a lot of respect.”

Lawrence stressed that he will continue to attract attention from double-teaming blockers regardless of the commentary. “It’s getting a lot of attention,” he insisted. “Check the numbers. Check the numbers.” He recounted his matchup against backup center Brett Toth in Philadelphia, urging, “Check those numbers as well.”

He also reassured that his dislocated elbow, which sidelined him after Thanksgiving last year, is no longer a concern. “I think I’m doing the best I can given the opportunity,” he said. “Numbers aren’t everything. I’ve been saying that for a few years now. I don’t think the numbers tell the truth.”

“The way I play is destructive. If you ask the people I play against, they’ll probably tell you the same. They’re not overly chatty.”

When asked if he was satisfied with his performance, Lawrence confidently replied, “I think I’m playing well, yeah.” He expressed frustration over Banks discussing him on a podcast, acknowledging, “Yeah, that’s a strong word. But that’s how he feels. Damn it.”

As he shifts focus to upcoming games, particularly against the 49ers, he stated, “That doesn’t surprise me, dude. I just keep doing what I have to do to win.”
