Cheryl Hines’ Shift from Liberal to Conservative Views Surprises Friends
Friends in Hollywood are, well, shocked might be an understatement regarding Cheryl Hines’ turn from a liberal to a more conservative stance, aligning with MAGA ideals.
“She was so liberal before—it’s tough to wrap our heads around this change,” a longtime friend commented, as reported in the Daily Mail.
“Now she’s married to someone from the Trump administration and actively supporting his more outrageous comments on ‘The View,'” they added, expressing disappointment over her shift.
The actress, known for her role in “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” is married to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Secretary of Health and Human Services, which has left many of her friends baffled. They never anticipated she’d adopt such right-leaning views.
Some insiders have described her transformation as “beyond comprehension,” especially given Kennedy’s previous attempts to distance himself from controversial opinions.
Earlier this month, Hines appeared on ABC’s “The View,” where she clashed with the hosts about Kennedy’s contentious assertions linking autism to circumcision and Tylenol usage.
“Respectfully, your husband seems the most unqualified for his position,” co-host Sunny Hostin remarked, stressing the risks of Kennedy’s ideas.
Hines defended her husband of 11 years, questioning how he could be “less qualified than an economist,” presumably referring to Sylvia Burwell, who led the department under Obama.
“He’s dedicated his career to researching health issues and advocating for people impacted by toxic substances,” she insisted, referencing Kennedy’s legal work advocating for a groundskeeper who claimed to have developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma from Roundup, leading to a major lawsuit win in 2018.
Hostin shot back, mentioning the misinformation Kennedy has spread, arguing that it poses a significant danger, despite her claims of respect.
A friend remarked, “Watching her on ‘The View,’ I thought, ‘What happened to the Cheryl I knew?'”
Joy Behar also chimed in, noting a mixed bag in political opinions, while Hines faced questions regarding Kennedy’s anti-vaccine stance tied to discredited links to autism.
“Can we overlook parents’ concerns when their vaccinated children stop meeting developmental milestones?” Hines asked rhetorically.
Sources noted it’s unusual for Hines to openly champion Kennedy’s controversial views, with one saying she seemed to have embraced MAGA principles now, and again questioning her initial support for more progressive beliefs.
When discussing Hines’ shift, a friend commented on how she seems to have changed her outlook dramatically. “It’s hard to digest,” they mentioned, reflecting on her previous liberal stances.
Another source noted the remarkable and sudden nature of her change, remarking that it feels almost overnight. “I respect her right to her views, but this is just… crazy,” they said.
There was no immediate response from Hines’ representative to inquiries about the situation.
Notably, Hines has publicly countered some of Kennedy’s past remarks, such as comparing the unvaccinated to oppressed groups in history. At that time, she stated, “My husband’s views don’t align with mine,” calling them “insensitive” but affirmed their mutual love despite disagreements.
