Chris Cuomo Criticizes Brian Krassenstein for Suggesting Americans Should Arm Themselves Against ICE

Cuomo Challenges Klassenstein on Gun Ownership Debate

On Thursday, Chris Cuomo, host of NewsNation, confronted left-wing influencer Brian Klassenstein during an episode of “The Chris Cuomo Project.” This discussion centered around Klassenstein’s support for former CNN host Don Lemon, who had recently suggested that racial minorities should arm themselves to defend against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In a post on October 17th, Klassenstein expressed his agreement with Lemon, stating that the Second Amendment exists to protect citizens from excessive government power. Cuomo engaged in a back-and-forth with Klassenstein regarding the implications of Lemon’s comments and how Americans ought to understand the Second Amendment.

Klassenstein articulated his viewpoint: “I believe Mexican-Americans and Guatemalan-Americans should be armed. I’m here to protect my home and myself,” he said.

Cuomo pushed back, asking what kind of threats Klassenstein was referring to. Klassenstein responded, “From all kinds of threats.” Cuomo countered, explaining that simply owning weapons is not about targeting law enforcement or tax officials but rather about protecting his family from real dangers.

Klassenstein attempted to clarify his stance, urging people to consider a situation where they might feel endangered in their own homes. He argued that in such cases, having a firearm could provide a sense of security, even suggesting that while he does not advocate shooting ICE agents, he understands why some might consider legal weapon ownership due to their fear of ICE actions.

Cuomo retorted, “Brian, you know this is flawed reasoning. Look, I own guns, but that’s not what he was suggesting.” His remarks came amidst rising concerns, as reported by the Department of Homeland Security, of increasing attacks on ICE agents—up 1000% year on year, with incidents of violence reported during ICE operations in various locations.

In July, an ICE agent was shot at during a raid in California, and troubling reports emerged of violent assaults against ICE facilities across the country. This backdrop contributed to the intensity of the ongoing debate about firearm ownership and protection in the face of government actions. The conversation between Cuomo and Klassenstein highlighted the complexities surrounding self-defense, societal fears, and the interpretation of constitutional rights.
