Glamor UK Features Transgender Women in 2025 Woman of the Year Issue
Glamor UK magazine unveiled its 2025 Woman of the Year edition on Wednesday, showcasing nine transgender women on the cover. Among those reacting to this decision is author J.K. Rowling, who remarked that it implies “men are better women than they are.”
Rowling, reflecting on her own experiences, noted that she grew up when women’s magazines pressured girls to conform to unrealistic beauty standards, stressing that now they send a different message—suggesting men can be better representatives of womanhood.
The featured cover includes notable names like Munroe Bergdorf, Maxine Herron, Tyra, Munya, Bel Priestley, Dani St. James, Seval Omar, Mya Mehmi, and Shon Faye. These individuals are recognized for their diverse contributions as models, activists, writers, and actors.
This isn’t the first time Rowling has addressed issues surrounding gender identity. As a long-time supporter of women’s rights, she has frequently advocated for spaces meant exclusively for those born female. Rapper Zubee commented on her post, labeling the trans movement as one of the most misogynistic movements of our time, particularly due to its widespread acceptance.
In response to Glamor UK, some users expressed strong disapproval, calling the magazine’s choice “utterly humiliating” and an insult to women. Remarks included disbelief that a so-called women’s magazine would choose a man to represent “Woman of the Year,” arguing that womanhood isn’t a costume.
Rowling’s post on social media, which includes the magazine cover, had amassed over 850,000 views by Thursday morning.
