Lamar Jackson Shines in Return to Ravens Against Dolphins
Lamar Jackson’s comeback with the Baltimore Ravens was nothing short of spectacular. Returning from a hamstring injury, the former MVP showcased his skills by throwing four touchdown passes in a decisive 28-6 win over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football.
Jackson had been sidelined for the previous four games, watching helplessly as the Ravens stumbled. After a tough win last week brought their record to 2-6, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh welcomed Jackson back in Week 9, and he certainly made an impact.
While his signature scrambling was kept in check to protect his hamstring, it was clear Jackson was eager to shake off the rust after being inactive for a whole month.
The Ravens took a quick lead in the first quarter. After their defense forced a fumble from Taj Washington, they found themselves near the Dolphins’ end zone. Jackson connected with tight end Mark Andrews on a fourth down, putting Baltimore up 7-3.
Following a missed field goal attempt by the Dolphins, Jackson orchestrated a solid drive of seven plays, covering 75 yards. He hit Andrews again, who raced 20 yards for another touchdown, extending the lead to 14-3.
On the Dolphins’ side, Tua Tagovailoa faced mounting frustration as boos rained down from the crowd, particularly since Miami struggled to score despite reaching the red zone five times throughout the game.
With a halftime lead of 14-6, Jackson and the Ravens stepped up their game with a methodical 11-play drive that culminated in a touchdown by Charlie Kohler. The Dolphins were limited to just seven plays in the third quarter, and amid more crowd jeers, Jackson found Rashod Bateman for his fourth touchdown.
The Dolphins managed to mount a 12-play drive in the fourth quarter, but a fumble in the red zone halted their progress. Tagovailoa was ultimately intercepted by rookie Malachi Starks, sealing the Ravens’ victory.
In the stats, Jackson completed 18 out of 23 passes for 204 yards, with those four touchdowns but only had 15 rushing yards. Derrick Henry contributed significantly, rushing for 119 yards on 19 carries. Zay Flowers caught five passes for 64 yards.
On the opposing team, Tagovailoa finished 25 of 40 for 261 yards, without any touchdowns and one interception. Running back Devon Ashen added 67 rushing yards and caught six passes for 39 yards, while Jaylen Waddle led Miami with six receptions for 82 yards.
With their season starting off at 1-6, the Ravens know that continuing their winning streak is crucial for their playoff aspirations, a goal made more attainable by Jackson’s return. Meanwhile, the Dolphins face challenges ahead, especially after what initially seemed like a promising season.
