Raids in New Jersey Target Illegal Immigration

Federal immigration agents conducted a raid at a cargo warehouse in New Jersey, leading to the arrest of many undocumented immigrants, according to reports from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

“DHS aims to uphold the highest standards of security and accountability within our bonded facilities to ensure the protection of U.S. commerce and the public,” stated a DHS official.

As agents carried out the arrests, activists showed up to protest, claiming that the majority of those detained were workers involved in packing for international shipping companies.

Local reports noted that DHS has initiated workplace inspections at a facility operated by the Italy-based logistics firm Savino Del Bene.

A spokesperson mentioned that 46 individuals were apprehended, accounting for approximately 22% of the workforce present at the site.

“This operation represents our ongoing commitment to enforce customs and immigration regulations, safeguard the integrity of the supply chain, and ensure that warehouse operators adhere to security protocols,” the spokesperson added.

The detained individuals will remain in DHS custody pending review of their immigration status.

Contact was attempted by Blaze News with Savino Del Bene for a statement regarding the incident.

This marks the third enforcement operation in Middlesex County over the past few months. In July, 15 employees were detained from a wine and spirits warehouse, followed by an additional 29 arrests in August from another cargo warehouse.

Atlantic Highlands Mayor Lori Hohenleitner expressed concern, noting that the local police department was unaware of the ICE operation happening early Sunday morning. She also mentioned an unrelated arrest of a local restaurant owner, Rupert Vicens Marquez, who had a valid and recently renewed work visa. Hohenleitner criticized the federal agents for this action.
