Gayle King Refutes Claims of Leaving CBS Amidst Rumors: 'They Want Me Here’

Gayle King Denies Resignation Rumors Amid CBS Overhaul

Famed television anchor Gayle King is said to be resigning from CBS Morning as the network prepares for significant changes after its acquisition by Skydance. Yet, Dr. King has firmly rejected these claims.

“All I can say is this. From what I’ve heard from everyone in this building…they want me here, they appreciate what I’m doing, and I really like what I’m doing!” she remarked to TMZ.

The rationale behind King’s potential departure, after over ten years of hosting, remains unclear. There are suggestions that she might transition to a different role within CBS News, according to Variety.

“King’s current contract expires in May,” a report indicated. “It seems that CBS wants her to stay in the news division, possibly allowing her to produce her own programming.” The situation echoes that of Norah O’Donnell, who left her position as anchor for CBS Evening News earlier this year to become a senior correspondent, contributing to various programs.

“King appears to be the latest in a series of high-profile CBS personnel exiting their roles as corporate ownership shifts from the Redstone family to the Ellison family, who aim to steer CBS News away from what they consider a liberal bias,” the report continued.

A spokesperson for CBS News stated, “We have not had any discussions with Gayle regarding her contract through May 2026,” adding that she is a “truly valuable asset to CBS,” and they look forward to discussing her future with her.

In related news, Paramount recently announced 1,000 layoffs as part of a major restructuring under new CEO David Ellison. This decision will impact nearly 2,000 employees and is part of a plan to cut costs by $2 billion. Prior to the acquisition, Paramount was already aiming to save $500 million.
