New York City Marathon Results

The men’s race at the New York City Marathon concluded on Sunday with an exciting finish. Benson Kipruto from Kenya edged out fellow Kenyan Alexander Mutiso in a close photo finish.

As they approached the final stretch, which was around the 24th mile, both runners pulled away from the pack. Mutiso made a strong push with about 50 meters to go but couldn’t quite catch Kipruto.

Kipruto’s finishing time was 2:08.09, marking his first win at this marathon. He has previously triumphed at notable events, including the 2024 Tokyo Marathon and the 2021 Boston Marathon. Interestingly, this year’s time was just slightly off his personal best of 2:02.16.

Meanwhile, on the women’s side, Helen Obiri made her mark by setting a new course record. She finished with an impressive time of 2:19.51, securing her second victory in this event. Obiri outpaced Sharon Rokedi in the last mile, besting Margaret Okayo’s long-standing record from 2003 of 2:22.31.

The marathon course, spanning 42.2 miles, takes runners through all five boroughs of New York, beginning in Staten Island and ending in Central Park. The race is a long-standing tradition, marking its 49th iteration this year.

For perspective, the very first New York City Marathon had only 55 finishers, while last year’s race saw an incredible 55,642 participants cross the finish line.
