Republican Jack Ciattarelli recently expressed that New Jersey is ready to welcome New Yorkers seeking a change, especially if Democratic Socialist Zoran Mamdani becomes mayor of New York City. Ciattarelli mentioned this during an appearance on “One Nation with Brian Kilmeade,” suggesting that New Jersey would be rolling out the welcome mat not only for individuals but for businesses as well.
His comments came amid an ongoing tight race against Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill for the governor’s seat. This discussion followed Mamdani’s humorous remarks on “The Daily Show” about his tax plans, which he called a step toward a “socialist utopia in New Jersey.”
Mamdani recently mentioned raising taxes on individuals earning over $1 million, suggesting a 2% increase, and discussed corporate tax hikes in the context of New Jersey’s evolving economic landscape. These proposals, he claimed, are not only common but also have historical precedence.
In contrast, Ciattarelli highlighted his own fiscal priorities in the race. He asserted that, if elected, his administration would aim to downsize and streamline a state government he argues has expanded by 64% during the current administration. This expansion, he points out, has the support of his opponent.
“By cutting down the size and cost of government, I can lower taxes for both individuals and businesses,” Ciattarelli stated, emphasizing that such changes would make New Jersey an attractive option for those escaping New York.
Ciattarelli described his vision of transforming New Jersey into a place that appeals to retirees seeking comfort and young people looking for new opportunities. Overall, the upcoming gubernatorial election in New Jersey, alongside the mayoral election in New York, is attracting significant attention, with voters set to make their decisions soon.
