Matthew Lillard Critiques ICE at “Scream” Screening

During a Halloween event in Los Angeles celebrating the 1996 horror classic “Scream,” actor Matthew Lillard expressed strong criticism of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He made these remarks while promoting the film’s legacy.

In his speech, Lillard took aim at the immigration policies of the Trump administration, emphasizing a message of love and unity. “F— ICE,” he declared, urging the audience to remember the importance of compassion. “Right now, in this city, let’s lead with love. It’s not just about politics; it’s about human connection,” he added.

Lillard, who is set to reprise his role in the upcoming “Scream 7,” also encouraged attendees to support Proposition 50 in an upcoming special election in California. “You have to vote. If we don’t participate, we risk declining as a community, and that’s our responsibility,” he stated.

This particular measure, if passed, would enable California lawmakers to temporarily redraw the congressional maps, which could result in additional Democratic seats. The push for this change comes as local Democrats, including Governor Gavin Newsom, aim to counter recent Republican-leaning redistricting efforts seen in Texas.

Similarly, other celebrities have taken public stances against ICE and the Trump administration’s policies. For example, Latin music star Bad Bunny mentioned in an interview that he avoided certain U.S. tour dates partly to protect fans from potential ICE actions. Pop singer Renee Rapp also criticized the agency following a raid in Portland, stating emphatically, “Let’s be clear: F— ICE. F— this administration.”

The conversation around ICE has intensified as law enforcement steps up efforts to deport undocumented immigrants. Recently, country artist Zach Bryan faced backlash over lyrics in his song “Bad News,” which were interpreted as anti-ICE. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem voiced her disapproval, suggesting that such messages are disrespectful to law enforcement.

In light of Lillard’s comments, a representative from the Department of Homeland Security pushed back, labeling his remarks as “petty garbage from a Hollywood elite.” They criticized the portrayal of law enforcement, arguing that real horror lies in the threat posed by undocumented criminals. “Hollywood elites should express gratitude to law enforcement rather than demonize them,” the statement concluded.
