Cuomo’s Late Push in Mayoral Race
A recent discussion on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” highlighted the strong finish of independent New York mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo in his campaign. However, the consensus among the panelists is that it might be “too late” for him to surpass Democratic frontrunner Zoran Mamdani.
Mike Barnicle, a senior contributor at MSNBC, praised Cuomo’s advertisements released just before the election. He expressed curiosity about who is leading the campaign. Carolyn Ryan from the New York Times noted that while Cuomo’s final arguments were better, there seemed to be some struggle in his campaign, mentioning the involvement of former associates like Melissa DeRosa.
Ryan pointed out that Cuomo’s team had reportedly faced challenges with social media, especially considering Mamdani’s adeptness with visual imagery. She raised the pertinent question: “Is he coming too late?”
Joe Scarborough, the moderator, acknowledged Cuomo’s impactful advertisements, stating that they might not be sufficient to secure a victory. He remarked on the lethargy of Cuomo’s earlier campaign efforts but recognized the strength of his recent closing advertisement.
Despite the potential appeal of his final push, Scarborough concluded that Cupmo might already be behind the eight ball: “It’s already too late,” he said.
Ryan reinforced this sentiment, indicating that with “nearly half of the people” having already cast their votes, time is not on Cuomo’s side. Meanwhile, Zach Sage Fox, CEO of Fat Camp Films, who was brought on board after current Mayor Eric Adams exited the race, expressed concerns about timing. He stated they had limited time to execute a successful strategy.
Fox summarized the situation succinctly: “Is it a little too late? We didn’t have a month to do a good job.” His perspective reflects a broader concern about whether Cuomo’s efforts can truly turn the tide as Election Day approaches.
