Bomb Threats at Multiple NJ Voting Locations Lead to Closures and Relocations

On Election Day, several polling places in New Jersey had to close and shift locations due to bomb threats directed at voters.

Police responded to these emailed threats and secured the affected sites, as reported by News 12.

Attorney General Matthew Platkin noted on social media that threats targeted Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Passaic counties. While some polling places were able to reopen, others planned to redirect voters to nearby locations.

“Voters should feel confident that they can cast their votes without intimidation. We will continue our efforts to ensure free, fair, and secure elections. Our stance is clear: any attempts to disrupt our electoral process will not be tolerated, and we will hold accountable those who threaten its safety,” Platkin emphasized.

According to KMBC, Passaic County spokeswoman Lindsay Reed mentioned that her county received three threats, which led to some voters being redirected.

Reports indicated that “one school building has been evacuated and voting has resumed.”

Fox News also covered that if authorities receive a threat, caution is paramount. This includes evacuating buildings or pausing operations until law enforcement can conduct an investigation.

In response, Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way stated, “Law enforcement has assessed the situation and determined that there is no credible threat at the moment. We are committed to ensuring the safety of voters and poll workers, collaborating closely with federal and local partners to ensure a secure election.

This situation arises as conservative activist Scott Pressler reported earlier in the day that some voting machines were down in three Republican districts in New Jersey. He later noted that those issues had been resolved and machines were functioning again in certain areas, as per Breitbart News.

“Recently released polls show New Jersey’s Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli and Democratic candidate Rep. Mikie Sherrill are nearly tied in the race,” the report stated.
