Former Jets teammates pay their respects to Nick Mangold at his funeral in New Jersey

Funeral Held for Beloved Jets Center Nick Mangold

On Tuesday, over 400 people, including former teammates from the Jets, gathered to celebrate the life of Nick Mangold, a cherished center for the team.

The service took place at St. Vincent Martyr Church in Madison, New Jersey, and was streamed online for those unable to attend in person.

The atmosphere was somber as former head coach Rex Ryan was joined by notable players such as Darrelle Revis, Chad Pennington, and Damian Woody among others from the Jets family to honor Mangold, who sadly passed away on October 25 due to complications from kidney disease.

He was just 41 years old.

Former kicker Jay Feely expressed his condolences on social media, stating, “We will miss you, friend,” accompanied by a photo shared from outside the church.

Former quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick stepped up to the podium, took a moment, and read a passage from Proverbs. He remarked, “Blessed are those who have good families, enjoy their work, are encouraged by friends, are comfortable with others, and have a clear conscience.”

Hall of Famer Alan Faneca then delivered a heartfelt eulogy, wearing a green Jets hat in a backward fashion, which was reminiscent of Mangold’s signature style. “I’m going to borrow a little inspiration from Nick to help me out today,” Faneca said, resulting in laughter from those present. “I think he would approve.”

He went on to reflect on Mangold’s unique ability to make everyone feel valued and appreciated, emphasizing how he transformed everyday moments into cherished memories through his humor and kindness.

Among those carrying Mangold’s casket was AJ Hawk, a college teammate at Ohio State. Hawk, seen in a jacket featuring Mangold’s jersey number 74, wiped away tears as he helped escort the former Jets player’s coffins into the chapel.

Mangold had been diagnosed with a genetic condition causing chronic kidney disease back in 2006. His untimely passing came just two weeks after he publicly announced his need for a kidney transplant.
