The Associated Press faces backlash online for criticizing pet owners about climate change.

Pet owners are expressing their outrage towards the Associated Press following the release of a video that implies pets contribute to climate change.

The video, shared on social media, suggests that pets worsen climate change largely due to their consumption of meat-based diets. It urges pet owners to consider adoption rather than buying pets from breeders.

There’s a line that goes: “We hear people bringing in things saying, ‘You’re going to eat bugs,’ and then saying, ‘Sacrifice your pets for climate change.’”

In a somewhat curious tone, the video mentions that “Pets have a pretty big impact on the climate,” and prompts viewers to think about which type of pet would have the smallest carbon footprint.

It also suggests options for pet owners to reduce their pets’ environmental impact.

The clip quickly accumulated over 2.3 million views, with many pet owners responding angrily, sharing their own thoughts on the matter.

One social media user, Charles Cook from National Review, reacted by saying, “None of this matters at all. It’s all nonsense. Countries that worry about it get poorer, but those that don’t don’t suffer.”

Another commenter, John Gabriel, remarked, “We at the Associated Press have decided that life isn’t that unpleasant. There are other ways to make life even worse.”

Influencer Chance McClain shared his thoughts: “If I tried for 40 years… if God made me immortal and spent eternity… I wouldn’t be able to care so much about my pet’s carbon footprint.”

Showrunner Joseph Mallozzi expressed his disbelief, saying, “You would have to be mentally deficient to choose your next pet based on what this article suggests.”

One user added, “When you feel depressed and useless, just remember that there was someone at The Associated Press who investigated and approved this article.”

Drew Holden made a sardonic comment: “From the people who brought you, ‘You’re going to eat bugs,’ now comes ‘Sacrifice your pets for climate change.’”

Others were even more blunt in their responses, with one user simply stating, “I have a suggestion for you on this: Go fuck yourself.”

In a memo released back in October, Bill Gates had discussed climate change, indicating that focusing on mitigation efforts for those at risk might be more beneficial rather than taking extreme measures.
