Former NFL linebacker Keith Browner, who had a five-year career in the league from 1984 to 1988, passed away on Tuesday in California at the age of 63, as confirmed by his family.
His son, Keith Browner Jr., mentioned to TMZ Sports that his father’s death was “unexpected and sudden,” possibly resulting from a heart attack. Prior to his passing, Browner had reportedly experienced stomach issues and fatigue.
Browner made a name for himself as a standout player at USC before being selected in the second round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 1984 NFL Draft. He played three seasons with the Buccaneers before moving on to the San Francisco 49ers in 1987, although he wrapped up that season with the Oakland Raiders. Ultimately, he finished his NFL career with the San Diego Chargers in 1988.
In total, Browner participated in 65 games, amassing 10.5 sacks. After the NFL, he continued his football journey in the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League, where he was part of the Arena Bowl Championship teams with the Tampa Bay Storm and Arizona Rattlers.
The Browner family has a rich legacy in professional football. Keith Browner’s siblings, Jim, Joey, and Ross, all had careers in the NFL, just like his son. Additionally, Browner’s nephew, Max Starks, played in the league from 2004 to 2013 and celebrated two Super Bowl victories.
