Former DOJ Worker Acquitted of Attacking Border Patrol Officer with a Sandwich

A jury found a former DOJ official not guilty of assault after a sandwich-throwing incident

A jury on Thursday cleared a former U.S. Department of Justice official accused of assaulting a federal employee by throwing a sandwich.

The individual, identified as Sean Dunn, faced a single misdemeanor charge after a federal grand jury dismissed more serious allegations linked to the incident, as reported by NBC News.

The encounter happened in early August in Washington, D.C. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that Dunn was facing felony assault charges and emphasized that such conduct would not be tolerated.

Bondi mentioned, “If you touch a law enforcement officer, we come after you. We just learned that this defendant used to work at the Department of Justice, but no longer. Not only has he been fired, he has been charged with a felony.” She further expressed that this situation reflects ongoing challenges related to the DOJ’s management, indicating that one cannot work within the administration while showing disrespect towards government officials and law enforcement.

Video evidence captured Dunn throwing a sandwich at an officer and allegedly punching him in the chest. He reportedly fled the scene when officers pursued him.

The officer involved was identified as Border Patrol agent Greg Laremore. Additional footage showed Dunn confronting officers and expressing his views before approaching Laremore.

Dunn claimed that his actions were meant to defend the rights of immigrants, believing that throwing sandwiches somehow contributed to that cause.

Despite incidents like this and ongoing criticism targeting federal agents, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents remain committed to apprehending serious offenders. Reports noted that in Virginia, where many sanctuary cities limit local police cooperation with ICE, federal agents have successfully arrested individuals convicted of severe crimes, including child molestation and violent assaults.

In the meantime, Trump administration officials have been pushing back against liberal media narratives that criticize ICE and Border Patrol operations, asserting that these reports fail to convey the full context surrounding enforcement actions.
