Tragic Loss for Dodgers Pitcher Alex Beshear
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Beshear shared heartbreaking news on social media about the passing of his infant daughter, Sterling, during the last week of October.
Describing his sorrow, he wrote, “Our little angel, we love you forever and you will always be with us. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven on Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to express the pain we are going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every moment we had together.” He included a touching photo of him holding Sterling’s hand in an Instagram post.
Beshear expressed gratitude towards the Dodgers for their support during this challenging time. “Our baseball family has been there for us. We couldn’t have managed this without them. Thank you to Dodger Nation, the Blue Jays, and all baseball fans for your love. Your messages and posts have brought us comfort,” he shared.
He also thanked the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai, remarking that everyone they encountered was truly wonderful.
The Dodgers had announced on October 23 that Beshear would be on leave during the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, although they did not specify the reasons at that time, indicating the team was heartbroken.
In a statement, the Dodgers said, “We regret that Alex Beshear is stepping away from the team as he and his wife, Kayla, deal with very personal family matters. The entire Dodgers organization supports the Beshear family and will provide updates later.”
During Game 3 of the World Series on October 27, Beshear’s teammates wore the number 51 on their hats to honor him. Pitcher Clayton Kershaw spoke about the decision, expressing how important Beshear was to the team and their desire to show support.
Vesia and Kayla had previously announced their pregnancy, expecting their baby in April. Amidst the devastation, the sense of community and support within the baseball family has been evident.
