Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons Issues Warning to Gunman Who Shot at ICE Agents

Manhunt for Shooter Who Targeted ICE Agents

On Monday, Todd Lyons, the Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), shared on “Fox & Friends” that there’s an active manhunt for the gunman who opened fire on ICE agents in Chicago. He emphasized that this individual will be caught and face prosecution.

Federal authorities are currently searching for the shooter who fired at ICE agents during an operation in the Little Village neighborhood on Saturday. During this event, protesters threw rocks, bricks, and paint cans, and there were at least four instances of vehicles being used to ram into agents. Lyons expressed his determination to track down the shooter, stating that law enforcement is diligently investigating all leads, including surveillance footage. “If you engage violently with ICE or Border Patrol agents, we will find you and bring you to justice,” he warned.

Opposition to ICE’s efforts to detain undocumented immigrants in Chicago has grown, leading to several riots at ICE facilities. Among the people charged with obstructing ICE operations is Kat Abu-Ghazaleh, a Democratic Congressional candidate from Illinois.

Lyons described the escalating violence against ICE agents as concerning. Referring to the Border Patrol incident on Saturday, he pointed out that agents were attacked while trying to perform their duties. Despite the risks, they remained focused on their mission of addressing illegal immigration in Chicago. He noted that until political leaders cease their incendiary rhetoric, the dangerous atmosphere will persist.

Earlier, ICE conducted searches at two marijuana farms in California in July, rescuing ten minors, eight of whom were unaccompanied. This operation also experienced violence, with an individual allegedly firing at ICE agents.

In another incident, FBI agents arrested a suspect named Elpidio Reyna, who had fled to Mexico following an attack on ICE. Additionally, on September 24, a shooting at an ICE office in Dallas resulted in two fatalities, with the shooter taking his own life. In connection with a July 4 incident in Alvarado, Texas, ten individuals were indicted on attempted murder charges.
