A daring robber, who was using a cane and wearing a neck brace, pretended to limp during a bank heist in Louisiana last Friday. After pulling off the stunt, he fled with an “undisclosed amount of cash,” as reported by the police.
Authorities in Slidell, a quiet suburb of New Orleans, were taken aback while examining security footage from the Fidelity Bank that was targeted shortly before it closed on November 7.
The footage captured a tall man, dressed entirely in a gray jumpsuit, who dramatically entered the bank with a noticeable limp. He leaned on a cane that appeared too short for him and was careful to keep one leg straight.
His outfit was certainly eye-catching, featuring a large black-rimmed hat, sunglasses, a medical mask, and a clear fanny pack, topped off with a neck brace.
The suspect approached the teller, handed over a note indicating it was a robbery, according to a news release from the Slidell Police Department. The teller complied and placed the “undisclosed amount of cash” on the counter, which the thief promptly stashed into his wallet. After grabbing the cash, he casually walked out, leaving behind his act of being injured.
Outside the bank, surveillance showed him making a quick getaway down the street into a nearby neighborhood.
The Slidell Police believe they may have tried to pursue the man with a K-9 unit, though he possibly escaped in a vehicle.
Many people who saw the surveillance footage were surprised at how smoothly the suspect managed to leave with the money.
“It’s funny but not really! This guy should definitely be in the movies!!!,” one person remarked on the police department’s Facebook post.
Another suggested, “Maybe they should have some money set aside for film production nearby, just in case.” A third commenter added, “They come in with their handicap tags and run across the parking lot like a cross-country team.”
