Andres Perea’s Injury Update

Andres Perea will not be available for New York City FC just yet.

On Monday, the club shared that the midfielder had surgery for a fracture in his lower right leg at Montefiore Einstein Medical Center.

While a timeline for his return hasn’t been revealed, coach Pascal Jansen mentioned after the victory against Charlotte that Perea is expected to be sidelined “for a little while.”

Perea will start rehabilitation immediately.

“Everyone at the club wishes Andres a speedy recovery,” the organization stated.

The injury occurred in the 71st minute of Game 3 against Charlotte FC, during which NYCFC secured a win and moved on to the conference semifinals against the Union.

Perea was attempting to win a header against Charlotte’s Adilson Maranda but landed awkwardly on his right foot. This caused his leg to bend back in an unnatural way, leading to immediate pain.

Perea was taken off the field as medical staff attended to him, and play was paused for about four minutes.

Jansen called the situation quite tense and noted that losing Perea was “huge” for the team.

Throughout this season, Perea participated in 24 MLS matches with NYCFC, netting three goals and yielding one assist. He also contributed an assist in the playoff match against Charlotte.

NYCFC is set to play Philadelphia in the conference semifinals on November 23rd after the international break.

Before joining NYCFC, Perea was with Union but was loaned out for the latter half of the 2023 season. He officially moved to New York City in January 2024.

This season marks the fourth instance in five years that NYCFC has progressed beyond the conference semifinals in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
