Oscar Isaac Would Return to 'Star Wars' if Disney Avoids 'Fascism' Following 'Kimmel Live' Suspension

Oscar Isaac on Future with Disney

Oscar Isaac, known for his roles in the Moon Knight series and the recent Star Wars films, has expressed uncertainty about returning to work with Disney. This comes after a minor suspension involving late-night host Jimmy Kimmel earlier this year.

When asked about reprising his role as Poe Dameron in Star Wars, Isaac told GQ that he has concerns regarding Disney possibly “succumbing to fascism,” making him hesitant about future collaborations.

“Sure, I’m open to it. But at this moment, I’m not really inclined to work with Disney. If they can sort things out and steer clear of, you know, fascism, that would be fantastic. Then I would be open to discussing a return to that galaxy far, far away—or to other projects, too,” he said.

The interview came shortly after ABC and Disney paused production on Jimmy Kimmel Live! following Kimmel’s remarks about the death of activist Charlie Kirk.

Isaac’s views differ significantly from his earlier comments reported by Variety in late August.

In September, Disney suspended Kimmel after he referred to Kirk’s assassin as part of a “MAGA gang,” despite indications that left-wing ideology influenced the assailant. The decision was also linked to broadcast affiliates, Nexstar and Sinclair, not airing the show in their areas.

Nexstar criticized Kimmel’s statements, labeling them as “offensive and insensitive during a crucial time in the national political debate.” They expressed hope for a return to respectful discussions.

Kimmel made a comeback after his brief suspension and clarified that he never intended to trivialize the murder of Kirk. “I didn’t think there was anything strange about my remarks,” he stated during his monologue. “The day it happened, I shared a message on Instagram to express my love and condolences to his family. I genuinely meant it, and I still do.”
