Unprovoked Attack Reportedly Transforms California Man’s Journey Home Into Nightmare on the Highway

Man Left Half-Blind After Frozen Water Balloon Incident

A man from Northern California experienced severe eye injuries after a frozen water balloon struck his windshield. The incident left him questioning the motivations behind such an aggressive act.

Alex Plant, 28, was driving home from work on a Thursday night on Interstate 20 near Hallwood Boulevard in Yuba County when another driver, traveling the wrong way, allegedly threw something from his window, as reported by KCRA.

“I saw it for only about 45 seconds before it came crashing through,” Plant recalled. The frozen balloon reportedly shattered the windshield at 45 mph, hitting him directly in the face and eye.

Plant managed to pull over and asked Siri to call 911. “I couldn’t even look at my phone, even if I wanted to, because my eyes were already starting to close,” he explained. First responders quickly recognized the situation when they saw bits of balloon mixed with the broken glass.

Medical staff spent hours at the hospital removing shards of glass from Plant’s face and eyes, according to reports. “Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to see my family again. It was really stressful,” he shared.

Fortunately, Plant’s left eye has fully healed, but his right eye remains sensitive to light and blurry. Doctors were able to extract a glass fragment about an eighth of an inch long from underneath his eyelid.

Plant questioned why someone would go to such lengths to freeze and tie up a balloon only to hurl it at his vehicle. “It seems like a lot of effort for something so random,” he expressed.

The California Highway Patrol is looking into the incident, but details are sparse, and there are no witnesses thus far. They have encouraged anyone with information to reach out.
