A woman from Harlem, who unfortunately became a victim of a horrific attack, has been identified as a 47-year-old mother of four. This tragedy, marked by an alarming number of stab wounds—reportedly around 50—occurred early Monday morning near the elevator of her building on West 129th Street.
According to police and various sources, the attack is believed to have involved her ex-boyfriend, whose actions may have stemmed from jealousy. It’s important to note that, at the time of the incident, they were not in a relationship.
While going about his work, Ryron Middleton, a porter at the building, stumbled upon the scene and found her covered in blood. He quickly called 911.
Lopez was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital but sadly could not survive her injuries.
Surveillance footage showed the ominous moment when the attack occurred; according to Middleton, it seemed she had been waiting on the stairs for quite some time, about two hours, I think. He mentioned she was heard crying out a name—“Lewis, Lewis, Lewis. Stop Lewis, stop Lewis.”
The suspect was apprehended a few hours later and is currently being held for psychiatric evaluation before facing arraignment.
According to the building superintendent, Lopez’s children—two of whom lived with her—are understandably affected by this devastating situation. The superintendent described her and her family as generally good people, expressing disbelief that something like this could happen to them.
