Funeral services in New York City for firefighter who passed away fighting a major fire

Fallen FDNY Firefighter Patrick Brady to Receive Hero’s Farewell

Patrick Brady, a 42-year-old firefighter who tragically lost his life in the line of duty, will be honored with a farewell ceremony. The married firefighter passed away over the weekend while responding to a fire in Brooklyn. His wake is set for Friday in Brooklyn, followed by a funeral Mass in his Queens neighborhood on Saturday, with burial to take place thereafter, according to FDNY officials.

Hundreds are expected to attend the services, including fellow firefighters and family members.

Brady suffered a heart attack while battling a fire on the roof of a six-story apartment building just after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. He later succumbed to his condition at Brookdale Hospital.

A wake will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home, located at 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. The funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Francis de Sales Church on Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Bell Harbor, as reported by fire officials.

The sudden news of Brady’s passing has left residents in his Queens neighborhood in disbelief. Flags were lowered in tribute, and community members adorned trees and poles with red ribbons in memory of him.

Linda Romanto, a local resident, expressed her sentiments, saying, “It feels personal; his family is part of our community. We want the firefighters and police to know we stand with them, no matter the distance.”

Also, Linda Huang, who owns a local grocery store, noted that residents are gathering mementos of the brave firefighter, including copies of the newspaper featuring news of his death. “He was a regular; everyone knew and loved him, and it’s devastating,” she shared.

As discussions about Brady continued among tenants at the building where he fell, one resident recounted seeing firefighters carry him down on a stretcher due to elevator issues. “When I saw him being taken out, I understood he was gone,” the resident mentioned somberly.

In a show of respect, black and purple bunting was displayed outside Ladder 120 Fire Station in Brownsville. Brady’s wife, Kara Jankei, was present along with his firefighter brothers during this tribute, a customary honor for fallen heroes.

City fire officials have announced that Brady’s funeral will be streamed live on the FDNY website.
