Former partner arrested for stabbing Harlem woman '50 times' in surprise attack, says she was his 'whole life'

An ex-boyfriend, who has been described as unstable, is facing charges for the brutal murder of his former girlfriend in a Harlem building. This indictment came after he reportedly told police that she was his “everything in life.”

Luis Marquez, 41, is accused of stabbing Carmen Lopez, 47, a mother of four, around 50 times within an apartment building on West 129th Street. She was left bleeding in the hallway, where authorities say she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities believe Marquez’s motivation stemmed from jealousy, as he felt mistreated and neglected by Lopez.

While in custody, Marquez expressed that he had loved Lopez “for life,” despite their relationship having ended prior to the incident.

Ryron Middleton, a construction porter, stumbled upon Lopez while sweeping the stairs and immediately called for help.

Lopez was transported to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, but unfortunately could not be saved.

Middleton mentioned that surveillance footage showed the harrowing moments of the attack, revealing that Lopez appeared to have been waiting on the stairs for about two hours before Marquez ambushed her.

“In the video, she was heard screaming someone’s name,” Middleton recounted. “She was calling out, ‘Lewis, Lewis, Lewis. Stop Lewis, stop Lewis.'”

Marquez’s charges were filed after he was taken to Lincoln Medical Center for a 24-hour psychiatric evaluation.

A woman, identified as Lopez’s sister, silently confirmed through tears that her sibling was a good person. Another attendee revealed that Lopez hailed from the Dominican Republic.
