Antonio Brown Pleads Not Guilty to Attempted Murder Charges
Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges related to a mass shooting incident in Miami that occurred in May.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglash, confirmed via email that his client has officially submitted a written plea of not guilty. According to Eiglash, there’s a possibility that Brown will appear in a Miami courtroom for a bail hearing as soon as Wednesday morning.
Eiglash stated that Brown’s actions were in self-defense against someone with whom he had prior conflicts.
“The actions he was forced to take were solely in self-defense against the alleged victim’s violent actions. Mr. Brown was attacked that night and acted within his legal rights to protect himself,” Eiglash remarked.
The incident that led to the attempted murder charges involved the same individual who displayed a Palestinian flag during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show earlier in February. That person, Zulkarnain Kwame Nantambu, was arrested in June for various offenses including resisting police and disturbing the peace, linking the events surrounding the shooting to the Super Bowl performance.
In May, several social media clips captured Brown engaged in a brawl with multiple individuals at an Adin Ross boxing event, which was promoted by several sponsors. One video showed Brown appearing to struggle in a parking area when gunshots were heard, prompting spectators to flee.
Brown admitted to “hitting” a security guard that night and reportedly told one of the responding officers, “I didn’t do anything.” According to reports, a warrant had been issued for his arrest shortly after.
In addition to the current charges, Brown has faced numerous legal issues in the past. He was accused of rape and sexual misconduct in 2019, ultimately settling with his accusers. He also pleaded no contest to felony assault and theft charges in June 2020, and was arrested again in 2023 for allegedly failing to pay child support.
