Cardinals Face Tough Challenge After Loss to Seahawks
The Cardinals are reeling after a tough defeat to the Seahawks, and now they’ll need to regroup without one of their key players.
On Wednesday, Arizona coach Jonathan Gannon revealed that second-year receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. had emergency surgery for appendicitis on Monday. Unfortunately, he will be unavailable for the team’s upcoming Week 11 matchup against the 49ers.
It’s hard to say just how long Harrison will be sidelined as the Cardinals, currently sitting at 3-6, navigate this setback.
‘We’ll see,’ Gannon commented to the media. ‘Yeah, that’s life. That’s just how it goes in the NFL. It’s our responsibility to adapt and keep players ready to go.’
Although Harrison, 23, hasn’t quite met the expectations that come with being the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, he still stands out as Arizona’s leading receiving option.
So far this season, he has achieved 34 receptions for 525 yards and four touchdowns. Reflecting on the recent struggles, he mentioned, ‘Everyone has a role, and honestly, we’re just not performing at the level we should be.’ His disappointment was palpable after a sharp decline in Play during Week 3 against San Francisco.
“It’s frustrating. I know my potential, and it feels like I’m not reaching it, which definitely impacts the team. We need to improve,” he added.
Despite showing flashes of brilliance reminiscent of his days at Ohio State, Harrison has struggled with consistency amidst a franchise that’s undergoing significant changes.
While this is happening, the Cardinals are also reevaluating their quarterback situation. Kyler Murray has been placed on injured reserve due to an ongoing injury, and there’s growing uncertainty about his future with the team.
Reports have emerged suggesting that Murray might be parting ways with the franchise soon.
In the meantime, veteran Jacoby Brissett has stepped in to lead the offense, though the team faced a humiliating 44-22 loss to the Seahawks over the weekend.
With Harrison out, players like Michael Wilson and Greg Dortch are likely to take on more prominent roles. Tight end Trey McBride will also have increased expectations.
The Cardinals will face a crucial game against their division rival, the 49ers, this Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET, where they desperately need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
