Jack Smith’s Meeting with FBI Director Wray: New Developments

Former special counsel Jack Smith met with then-FBI Director Christopher Wray several months after he initiated his investigation into the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, and the 2020 election, according to insights from Fox News Digital.

Documents reviewed by Fox News Digital reveal that FBI Director Kash Patel recently provided this information to Senate Judiciary Committee leaders Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson.

Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, and Johnson from Wisconsin, are currently examining these documents as part of a combined investigation into Smith’s “Arctic Frost” project.

Details of the meeting on May 24, 2023, were included in a “Critical Incident Notice” generated by the FBI’s Criminal Investigation Division. This notice, which alerts senior leadership and field offices about significant incidents, updates the status of what is considered an “investigatively sensitive” case.

Grassley raised concerns about whether Smith had communicated with Wray or other high-ranking officials in the Justice Department. “He claims he wants to tell his story to Congress, but when I asked if he had met with Garland, Monaco, or Ray about the investigation, he wouldn’t say,” Grassley told Fox News Digital.

This issue becomes even more pivotal as Grassley had asked Smith directly in October about any meetings with Wray, Attorney General Merrick Garland, or others, but Smith’s response lacked specifics.

“If he truly wants the public to understand the truth, he should straightforwardly address my request for oversight, rather than evading questions,” Grassley asserted. Meanwhile, he also emphasized their goal to pursue a thorough investigation for transparency.

In light of ongoing confusion surrounding his inquiry into Trump’s alleged mishandling of documents and attempts to overturn the election results, Smith has requested to testify before both the House and Senate Judiciary Committees.

His legal team indicated that this testimony is essential to clarify misunderstandings about his investigation. Smith has not yet responded to Fox News Digital’s inquiries for comment.
