Falcons Coach Addresses Quarterback Rumors
Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris is aiming to clarify the situation regarding his quarterback, Michael Penix Jr.
Morris expressed his frustration over a press conference that has gone viral, referring to the comments about Penix’s support system as a “joke.” In the video from Wednesday, Penix mentioned that he relies on his fiancée and former coach for guidance.
However, social media users interpreted Penix’s remarks as an implication that there’s a lack of support for the second-year quarterback from the Falcons’ coaching staff or roster. Morris described the online reactions as “disappointing.”
Morris stated, “Stop asking young people for things. There’s no need for him to deal with this kind of pressure. These speculations have no impact on what’s happening in our building.” He went on to express sympathy for Penix, saying, “I don’t want him to handle stuff that’s irrelevant. Let’s just focus on improving.” He clarified that the issues at hand are real, while the rumors are not.
Penix himself refuted the rumors, asserting that everyone in the organization understands his commitment to the team. Quarterbacks coach DJ Williams mentioned that he talks with Penix frequently—perhaps even more than he does with his own child—indicating a strong communication line.
“Honestly, I don’t care,” Williams said. “Everything else? It’s just background noise.”
Penix had a promising first season with the Falcons, accumulating 1,807 passing yards and nine touchdowns over eight games.
Falcons running back Bijan Robinson also discussed how media narratives can often be exaggerated. “Everyone is here to support each other,” he noted. “The outside world will try to create division, but we need to keep our spirits high.”
As of now, the Falcons hold a record of 3-6, having lost four consecutive games as they prepare to face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
